And here is the conclusion of my thoughts on The Lunar Chronicles - an amazing series! Boy, I feel a little cheated by my own hands, because I wanted so long to read these. Because of the stories I read in Part 1 of my review of The Lunar Chronicles, I was readily prepared for the books in this review, Part 2. Each and every story tied in to perfection. I wonder how long it took her to write all of these. She's skilled- I wanna write like her when I grow up!
(The Lunar Chronicles banner was found on Google.com, but edited by me.)
Okay, so Cinder is when I began to see things tying together. All those short stories showed themselves in some way, shape or form here. This story was unbelievable! I was wowed from the very first chapter.
Cinder, no different than when she was introduced, is treated like the broken down step-child and sister, except to Peony. She's strong but weak, honest but secretive and shy because she knows she's different. And because if anyone found out she was cyborg, she'd be conscripted for medical research. Sadly, cyborgs never return from such a 'duty'. With this sword of damaclese hanging over her head, she's forced to live in fear, but she never loses her desire to be free.
The way Cinder is written, I felt like I was watching a movie. There was no fancy wording, making the tale poetic, it simply was. I love directness. I love story and I love action. this book held so much of all three, you couldn't do anything but thyrst for the follow up book! I also love the touch of Cinderella. Very clever, Ms. Meyer. Very clever indeed.
Scarlet introduced, well... Scarlet to the storyline. She's a farmer and a pilot. She delivers vegetables about France. She's also the grand-daughter of a well-sought out woman, who's got some information that's vital to a threatening war. The people that are seeking this information are animals!
A piece of Scarlet's story comes from the short story, The Queen's Army. See- that's why this series is so magical and powerful to me! The pieces just fit. They fit perfectly!
Had I not read the shorts in this order, I'd never have known all these bits and pieces until after the fact. This way is so much better. Meyer had to have done this on purpose! Maybe she left them out because the books would have been too long, who knows. All I know is, I'm reading these books thinking, "I wanna live in this world forever. I don't want the series to ever end!" This one touched on Red Riding Hood!
In the book Cress, there's someone added to the storyline. This girl was introduced in Cinder, if I remember correctly. She gave my loving cyborg mega-information that needed to be delivered the night of the ball, when Cinder later became a known terrorist! lol I don't think they used that word, but it's best or I'd end up giving away a SPOILER! And you know I don't do that.
Hinting at Rapunzel, Crescent is trapped in outpace. High above Earth and away from Luna, she's a 'Shell'- one who has no gift, and is being used by Thaumaturge Sybil Mira for information. Cress is highly talented with the gift of manipulating electronics. She was the one who programmed spyware that Queen Levana planted about Emperor Kai's Castle and various areas of the Eastern Commonwealth. She sabotaged Kai's droid and... I can't tell anymore- SPOILERS! But what I can say is, she's good at what she does. But she's trapped!
That's all I'm going to say- I'm so excited about this book. So much happened and I was just like, "Wha?" I'm almost sad; I'm just about done with the series and Lunar World! Where else can I go and feel this awesome now? Hopefully my next adventure has me feeling this good! You will love this story.
Filled with epic fights, understanding and explanations and eventually a finale that makes their victory your own- Winter of The Lunar Chronicles is a book that concludes not just a series, but a chunk of my literary life! It's like a bit of my soul closed when the final page was turned and the book settled upon my bookshelf!
I don't know what else to say about this series- I could easily give things away and ruin it for you! What I really loved though, was the Sleeping Beauty/Snow White thing. Each book held a bit of fairy tale, Disney, Golden Book homage. I have to say, I want to be as brilliant with my writing as Meyer is. I feel like I'm missing out on something now! Thank goodness I have a few stories in Stars Above to read before being completely finished with the series!
Since I'd already read several of theses stories, according to Ms. Meyer's instruction of keeping to the chronological order of things, I didn't have as much to read. This was rather fast for me, but what is most appreciated about Stars Above 📚
