I am staying true to my word and making sure I share video blogs on here. I may not post one a month, but I’m doing my best to keep you all informed, sometimes without a monthly newsletter. They can be hassling and I really don’t like bothering people with emails. They’re fun to make, but time consuming. I think I like these much better.
Enjoy and I’ll talk to you soon. Cheers!
For the longest time, I felt I was a failure at being an author. It always seemed to take me forever to get something of significance finished, and what I wrote never felt complete. What in the world was I doing?
Today, I still feel it's taking me the longest to get anything (my novel) finished, but my short stories seem to strike like lightning! I have one short in the hands of the anthology owner currently, while another's being prepared to be shipped over with another publisher. I feel like I'm on fire!
Would you like to win one of my paperback copies (only 10 ever made) of The Wisher's Orb as an anniversary, celebratory gift?
Maria Spada, designer
Hi! I'm Maria Spada, 28 years, and my life revolves around books. I am not just a book cover designer, but I am also a book seller and collector. I began doing digital work at age 15 when I discovered Photoshop by accident. I was self-taught, did a lot of practice and failed a lot of times as well. I initially worked as a freelance graphic artist--doing logos, banners and many other stuff. I only started designing book covers in 2015 when my writer friend asked me to recreate her covers, which was something I immediately loved. I dropped my other jobs and officially became a freelance book cover designer.
To me, book covers are everything! If your cover looks like a hot mess, I guarantee you, many will pass you over. It has to practically captivate and entrance. So this month, I reached out to two premade book cover designers. I wanted to know why they do what they do for us authors and a little about themselves.
This is my official motto!
When I saw the tee online, I knew I had to have the shirt. I've owned it for at least three years since, only wearing it once or twice a year. That's what I do with all my author, British and Church tees. I know- silly, but they have to stay in great condition. So what's any of this got to do with being an author or writing? I'll share it with you. Mostly in a usual blog, but the rest will be in the vlog you see below.
Check it out! I made a video on November 1st to celebrate National Author's Day. It was fun, laborious and very productive, if I should say so myself. "wink" Know this- I am not perfect. LOL
What the Heck Is Going On With Me?
I can not even begin to tell you how disappointed in myself I have become! Grrr!!! I mean seriously, I have made some awesome changes and advances with and for me, in general, but my book is still a bit slow. Why is that? Well, I'm about to tell you!
But first, this months' blog is about Progress. How I've managed to do somethings, even though they're not my main things, when it comes to writing. I'm proud but I am still not where I want to be. I am in need of becoming my own solution.
So how does one go about doing that?
Sometimes the time flies by, thanks to do so much and being so busy. Then there are times where you feel you've done absolutely nothing and the world is on fire and you can't even provide a good bucket to douse the flames, while still cooking dinner every evening, working out at the gym, singing for church, preparing for charity work and so much more...
Where'd my summer go? Did I even write? I've always been honest with my blogs. Here's one for the record.
Do you know what you're going to accomplish this summer?
I'm so excited- June is coming!
A full month of a break from school. My son's going back to my home state to visit my brother, his wife and son. He's going to Disneyland and I will be all by myself! During the evening hours anyway. So what does that mean for me? If you guessed Full Household Cleaning Spree, you're right but that's besides the point. The major thing here is: I get to WRITE, interruption-free, for a full month!
"I still have goosebumps!"

I don't know about you, but I remember back when cheering on 1999 was one the biggest things to celebrate, thanks to Prince. Now we are just two years from 2020. Sadly, we still have no hovering, speed vehicles, the moon has not been colonized and money isn't counted in Universal Credits. Soon...
Until then, I'd love to share with you my 2017 in review, as with every year.
It was very merry...
I watched the news this morning (depressing, I know), and saw many people didn't receive a joyous holiday. From house fires to a son being shot while walking down the street- so much pain in the world. This is why I always retreat into the world of fiction. I just don't like being washed over by the negativity. Thankfully, I received some awesome gifts to battle against the ugliness that can easily be seen with the push of a remote button...
It's not really about him, but the namesake's there.
Using NaNoWriMo 2017 to finally get my novel together!
I'm on my own schedule now. No obligations, no pressing deadlines and reading what I want more so than what's on The List, you know? So what am I currently reading? I'm mostly in to what to do with my website in 2018. Design and what catches another reader's eye stuff like that. But honestly, I'm reading horror.
Whenever I'm on the go, working out, driving or just relaxing in a steaming soak in the tub, I like listening to books. I have two audiobook libraries: one for iBooks and the other Audible. I remember when I first became an Apple Head; there was nothing I didn't that didn't have an "i" before it, but something happened when it comes to the life of an audiobook listener. For me, it was for the better...
The Malevolent Soul
word count: 50003
Editing Rough Draft
Currently sitting at 50,003 words, I've completed one of three parts. Naturally, each part won't be that large, but I needed to establish so much in my main character Ashley. She's a mess. She's also mostly me.
I won't share what parts of her life mesh into mine, but I will say that you will wonder quite a bit. (As with most of my stories)
Why Tea and Why Britain?
I've been asked that question and so many others that relate. To tell the truth, I have no idea which came first. If I had to give an answer, I believe I'd have to say, MTV.
Had it not been for MTV (the REAL MTV of the 80's), I'd have never developed a love for Duran Duran, Golden Earring, Spandau Ballet and many more, I've been in to videos from bands across the pond all my life- and they drank/drink tea. I also grew up watching James Bond and PBS's Masterpiece Theater, where their fav drink was: Tea. Everything from Europe suddenly grew prominent in my life and got me caught up. I wanted everyone to do with them, including the drinking of tea. See where I'm going?
Since the amazing days of the 80's, I've honed in on my tea appreciation. It began with the average cup of Lipton and blossomed. I believe my true find came in the form of the tea parties and the Teavana store, of the malls. I walked through those glass doors and inhaled aromas of the most heavenly- I couldn't believe it! I also couldn't believe the cost!!
But it didn't stop me; I began to buy various flavors: blueberry, Earl Grey, Lavender Créme Latte- so many and all so very tasty. I quit soda and slushies and junk and took to tea and water alone.
* An Issue with a Review Site
* My world
Hey gang! I hope you enjoyed your second month of the new year! It's been amazing- though I'm still angry with The Jetson's for lying about us having flying vehicles, homes in the sky and personal robots- and no, tiny floor cleaners do not apply! But I think iFloor cleaners and iPhones are very close. Especially Siri and Echo and what's the other's item? Oh well. On with the post!
Progress on my current WIP:
Work-In-Progress Celebration, conducted by Bethany A. Jennings | @simmeringmind
Created by Bethany A. Jennings, the project is set up for the author to get to know their characters, as well as share with the world. I think it's the absolute best. So much, I asked Bethany why she created #WIPjoy.
So I thought I'd share with you all of my pic-posts. I didn't list my responses, because it would have made too large a share, but I hope you enjoy the slide show and stick with me. I have a feeling The Malignant Soul will be a fun novel for me. If I can love it, surely you can too!
*My artist can be found at http://www.brettartz.tk He's the absolute greatest!
Who Am I?
My name's Alyssa and I'm just like you. Within me are stories, looking to be told. I do my best to relay them to the public, as magically as possible.
