A collection by Tom. G. H. Adams
Have you ever read a book so surreal, it made you pull out your bible to do research? Have you read a book that made you believe Purgatory is a place where you actually can make some sort of amends before passing on to the next life? Is there a next life?
That's what Beasts, Brutes & Abominations, by Tom. G. H. Adams, is all about...
Page after page, filled with classical form and surreal images, Beasts, Brutes and Abominations was one heck of a read. I have to admit, there were times where I wanted to put the book down. Not due to disinterest, but because I wasn’t sure where the story was going. Also, I read it during my 2017 Thanksgiving holiday and wanted to be with family more than read at the time.
Still, I found the stories of wonder and curiosity. For a time, I even had to pull out my bible [Baphoment’s Beasts], to check was I was understanding. The stories are off, strange and thought-provoking from time to time, but there’s humor and a bit of sadness as well. Every one of them contain death of some sort. And if the death hasn’t already occurred, then it’s either happening or about to- just giving you the head’s up.
There are other times where the story may be but a few paragraphs; I really didn’t get that.
My favorite chapter was The Creche. A story about a man who's stepped into what is believed to be Purgatory. All he sees, the trials he endures and the ending were perfect. I loved it all- the characters, monsters and his redemption from a lustful previous life. It's one to make you think.
The book is nicely written with a depth that strikes your core thoughts and maybe a few beliefs. Definitely worth reading if you’re in to classical. Adams writes with a style that’s not so much unique but with a voice that captured my interests. He made me want to know the ending.
So check out Tom G. H. Adams and his book Beasts, Brutes and Abominations while I move on to the next read.
