Bob Howard, the author of The Infected Dead series is an author after my own heart. You know what Mr. Howard did? He wrote these books on a dare. A Dare! If he can do this just for kicks, imagine what every aspiring author could do with serious intentions.
Well, I like these books; they are different. The Infected Dead series carries a non-phantasmic feel, like real life. A lucky life, but real. The stories begin with the fortunate findings of Ed Jackson, then carry you through the end of the world... Or does it?

Alive for now explains the zompoc in Ed Jackson's world. Just as quick as he's hit with the blessing of money and a new home, he's plunged into a world without video games and loneliness. Once thought to be a self-made misanthrope, he realizes that even with everything he wants, he needed people around him. So he breaks a cardinal rule, given by his uncle, Titus when it comes to survival. And that's when the adventure begins.
Alive For Now caught my attention through Instagram. It tells of how people can work together, even during the apocalypse. Yes, there will be those who want what you have, but if you're careful, you can live through it all. In the first book, you get to know the main characters, especially Ed. He's a bit bland, and doesn't really want much for himself but to be left alone, until the break out event. Through his experience, you learn how it all begins, but not the why. You also get to know his friends- yes, he finds some survivors, but I won't say more than that.
The story is good, yet detailed to a fault. Interesting, but does hit a bit of lag time- but most books do. You can't run on high octane 100% of the time with a story like this. Lastly, the heroes are so freaking goofy and lucky... but it's what makes it so enjoyable. Stick with me and find out what happens in the second book.
