*Exclusive Movie Review!
So when Sony sends you an email stating a movie screening is coming up, you have to have two pretty much be on call. First, you better hit the notification as quickly as your fingers will allow, because time IS of the essence. The second thing is availability. The showing will either be that evening or the next - because the seats vanish as fast as my iMac's notification hits! Like before, I expedited the situation faster than Speedy Gonzalez could barbecue Road Runner!
"I got 'dem tickets!"
Now normally I don't hold book to movie renditions in high esteem, but how could I not be totally and utterly thrilled about seeing Idris Elba on the big screen again? the man has my heart, dead to rights, but that says nothing for the actual movie, right? So with that, I can come to a fair and just review - mostly because I didn't read the entire series and I especially didn't get to the seventh book, of which this movie is primarily based.
The Dark Tower, adapted from many pieces of the 8-volume series, is about Roland Deschain doing his best to protect the fictional Dark Tower from the forces of evil, played by Matthew McConaughey. It's set in modern day New York and dreary Mid-World. A sinister plot is going down and only one person can stop it... but will he?
I won't tell the movie, but Mid-world was absolutely what I remembered from my school days, walking and reading while headed home from the bus stop. The Dark Man was totally evil, hateful but smooth and handsome, just like the graphic novels. I have
to say, McConaughey played it well. And Mr. Idris Elba, A.K.A. my heart, was fabulous! I don't claim many men as my husbands, but Idris still has my #2 slot, followed by The Rock! lol
OH, and if you're a real King fan, you will pick up on a ton of Easter Eggs throughout the movie. Like the decimated amusement park, the name of Jake's gift, and a St. Bernard. There's a few more, but maybe you can find additional ones.
Anyway, the story was great, the effects were on point and the acting was superb. I truly believe they'll make another one too. Or it could be wishful thinking on my part. Either way, I had an amazing date night with Husband #1! Go see The Dark Tower; it releases this Friday, August 4th!
