Candace Robinson, the author of The Glass Vault series, has proven herself an adventurous gal. I am enjoying her storylines and characters, but did book two in such a fantastical tale live up to all the hype?
I was happy to have been given the opportunity to find out what happened to Perrie, her cousin and the now dreaded Vale! The Bride of Glass picked up pretty much where Quinsey Wolfe's Glass Vault ended- with the city in peril! Perrie's happy life turned out to be a world full of disappointment and upset. Hate, lust, revenge and more- making The Bride of Glass NOT one of the YA novels I'd expected to read. Granted, book one didn't really sit in that category either, but I was even more pleased with this. August was a sham with a plan!
Now, everyone's been turned to glass and it's up to Neven, Perrie and Crazy Maisie to bring return the world to order. I guess those new jobs, collecting souls for the glass museum turned out to be a bummer! The only problem: you can't do anything about anything until you wake up! Vale's influence is stronger than any lullaby; leaving everyone trapped in a perpetual state of insanity, of all sorts.
The Bride of Glass is a dark fairytale of an adult kind. There are things that happen, you wouldn't expect and some things I couldn't even imagine to figure it out. I was left in wonder, and that was pretty cool. I didn't like how I was made to travel back a great deal for clarity- since so much more was happening in the present, but it didn't hurt the story one bit. I found myself captivated and thoroughly enjoyed the read.
Check out the series while I move on to the next read!
