Now you all know me, yeah? By now, you know I am not one to just blatantly go negative on a book. Movies and tv shows, I say whatever I want. One of my favorite short stories, The Mist by Stephen King (p. 21 of Skeleton Crew) has been morphed into something akin to the Great One's story. And they did NOT do it for the better... At first, I was going to just leave the show alone; I really was. I was going to cut the DVR setting and ignore the claim of the show being "from a story by Stephen King". OMGosh- it's really not! The only similarity is that there's a mist and there is something in it. But the something is so freaking lame!
If I recall correctly, episode two or three is when Alex (played by Gus Birney) meets the thing in the mist face-to-face. What happened next made me so upset, I nearly threw my remote! I was like: WHAT?! THAT'S IT? That's how bad it is. Not to mention, people are driving, running and shooting others, while running INSIDE the mist. Yes- if you know the story or saw the movie, that was a no-no. There wasn't just something out there, there were things and you didn't get very far if you weren't careful. I was also surprised that Alyssa Sutherland signed up for this. After being killed off of the History Channel's Vikings, I expected something huge from her. Another actor, Isiah Whitlock, Jr. is amazing, but sucks in this show as well. It's just really tough to see such good people in a haunting, yet amazing tale that succumb to a horrific tv rendition. The TV show is like a very long, and drawn out campfire. You sit with your friends, telling stories, waiting for the good part of the urban legend, only to find out, it's practically got the same ending as he previous tell. It's so boring and uneventful, I really wanted to stop watching. But I was invested; like I said, you know me. I don't suggest watching this show, but if you do, be ready to see nothing but mist, and even the FX for that didn't look good! You wanna know something really funny? Even though I was totally let down by this show, I'll more than likely watch the second season... if there is one. Cheers! The Mist, TV show Runtime: 60 minutes Check your local listing.
