The WanderLynn Experience- LovErotic series: The Layover, Island Adventures & Destination Home by L. Loren
So this seems to be my year in romance extreme. This one was different though. It still held a unbelievably rich guy and an admirable, confident woman, but what made it stand out was that it was about an interracial relationship. WOW- I could actually relate to it! Had my husband been secretly a millionaire, and pursued me, I'd have missed out! I'd continually rebuffed his approaches, with my broke self! Ha... Anyway, this story was adventurous and truly an experience. A WanderLynn Experience...
The WanderLynn Experience is a series of three books, by L. Loren. The titles are The Layover, Island Adventures, and Destination Home. They're about five people, but you don't have to keep up with them all.. The main characters, Connor (white guy) and Lynn (black woman) are your main focus. Lynn is a hardcore business woman, who suddenly finds herself the mother of teenaged twins (The Layover), after her sister dies. Taking them on means taking on nephew's mentor as well. Connor's attached to the children, though he's enduring a great stress in his own life. After time passes, which I appreciated, he is free to pursue what he wants most: Lynn! And thankfully, the desire for the hunt was mutual.
Once they get together, (Island Adventures), they endure so much insanity! From jealous friends, a mother straight from hell and an ex-wife who's suddenly discovered a scandalous epiphany, the couple endures trial after ridiculous trial! Everything during this portion of their relationship follows Murphy's Law but their perseverance leads them, happily, homeward bound. (Destination Home). But the tomfoolery doesn't stop there!
This series is unbelievable! I found myself entertained for a few reasons over the storyline. The main one being, It was interracial! I don't get many of these. Secondly, the relationship wasn't rushed. It felt almost fairytale-ish. The characters were allowed years in emotional stasis, before making a connection. It felt a bit off, but it was right- just how life is. I also loved that they were able to endure the bulk of the obstacles of their relationship. It felt real, though much of the liveliness did not.
Now for the nitty gritty: I didn't like the conversations. The issue that kept these books from being stunning, is the lack of compound words! I don't know anyone who speaks as formal as these people did! It was tedious and annoying for me. I found myself reading slower to make the convo's sound real. It took from the realism of the story. Also, the interruptions/manipulations of Connor's mother, ex-wife and best friend... way too insane! It was fun, but extremely annoying. Lastly, I have nine words too say: "Connor and Lynn were a couple of freaking bunnies!" LOL But that's okay, it is a "LovErotica" novel.
The WanderLynn Experience was a fun read, full of fun, romance, sex and insanity! If you're looking for something new, this is your series. She's a author who's got tons of potential and I'd happily read more of her work. I've even passed the titles and Loren's name on to other readers. Be watching- She's good!
I'm on to the next read...
